Postcard 1910s Roma Italy Venus of Cyrene Torso Museo Terme Alinari RPPC Unused

Rome, Italy1910Pre-linenExcellent

Carved from luminous white marble sometime in the 2nd century AD as a Roman copy of a Greek original, the Torso della Venere di Cirene turns its back to the viewer in a pose of extraordinary elegance — the surviving fragment of arms, torso, and hips conveying more sensuality than many complete figures. This real-photo postcard, published by the celebrated Florentine house of Fratelli Alinari (catalogue no. 36084a), captures the sculpture held in the Regio Museo delle Terme (now the Museo Nazionale Romano) in Rome. Alinari, founded in 1852, was the world's oldest photography company and the definitive authority on Italian art documentation; their museum series postcards are regarded as both art-historical records and collectibles in their own right. The back is clean and unused on a simple "Cartolina Postale" stock without publisher address lines, consistent with Alinari real-photo cards of the 1905–1915 period.
