Antique & Vintage Postcards

Pigeons scatter across the sun-washed flagstones of the Piazzetta as a handful of elegantly dressed visitors linger before the breathtaking Porta della Carta — the ceremonial Gothic gateway of the Palazzo Ducale — its pinnacles, niches of saints, and the iconic Lion of St. Mark presiding above the arch in one of Venice's most celebrated architectural set-pieces. The card was mailed by "Jack" to his friend Kitty, then residing at Piazza Annunziata 2 in Florence, with a chatty note recalling their shared memories of the city: "I am spending an hour at home thinking about Florence. What a lot of pleasant memories there are" before mentioning an imminent journey to Vienna. The deckle-edged border and fine-grain photographic texture are characteristic of 1930s Italian real-photo production.
