Antique & Vintage Postcards

Issued as an official souvenir of one of America's greatest world's fairs, this extraordinary 1915 card presents a sweeping bird's-eye illustrated map of San Francisco as it stood during the Panama-Pacific International Exposition — a celebration of the city's miraculous rebirth after the catastrophic 1906 earthquake and fire, and a global showcase marking the opening of the Panama Canal. Numbered points across the panorama — rendered in the meticulous color lithography of Cardinell-Vincent Co. of San Francisco — identify key exposition pavilions, landmark neighborhoods, the downtown commercial district with its signature dense grid, the Ferry Building waterfront, Golden Gate park, and the bay shimmering with vessels on both sides of the peninsula. The numbered legend (not visible on the card face itself, but referenced in the card series) would have guided visitors across the exposition grounds stretching along the northern waterfront. The reverse carries the official Panama-Pacific International Exposition seal in green, identifying Cardinell-Vincent Co. as publisher, with postal rates printed for US/Possessions (1¢) and foreign (2¢) — placing production firmly in 1915. This unused example is in remarkably clean condition for a 110-year-old card.
