Postcard 1938 Linen Wilshire Blvd Westlake Park Los Angeles CA Tichner

Los Angeles, California, USA1938LinenGood

Palm trees line a sweeping boulevard as Wilshire curves past the glittering blue waters of Westlake Lake in this vivid 1938 linen-era bird's-eye view — one of Los Angeles' most iconic pre-war streetscapes, captured before the park was renamed MacArthur Park in 1942. The bold Tichner Art Company chromolithograph renders the skyline's Art Deco towers in terracotta and cream against hazy purple mountains, while tiny period automobiles dot the divided roadway below. On the reverse, a friend dashed off a breezy note to three young women — Lucille, Grace, and Isabell — at a shared Washington D.C. address, a charming snapshot of Depression-era social life. Franked with a 1-cent green Franklin stamp, it was postmarked August 21, 1938 at the Arcadena (Arcadia/Pasadena area) Los Angeles station.
