Postcard Linen Hot Springs National Park AR Arlington Howe Majestic Hotels Aerial

Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA1935LinenGood

Soaring above the dense Ouachita Mountain forest in a small aircraft, the photographer captured this striking aerial linen-era view of Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas — one of America's oldest federal reservations and a celebrated resort destination famous for its thermal baths, horse racing, and glamorous hotel culture. Three grand resort hotels are visible nestled dramatically into the tree-covered hillside: the palatial Arlington Hotel with its distinctive red-roofed wings dominating the center, the Howe, and the Majestic, their formal grounds and winding approach roads cutting through the verdant canopy. Hot Springs was a playground for presidents, gangsters, and the American leisure class alike — Al Capone allegedly maintained a suite at the Arlington, and the town's spa culture drew visitors from across the country. Published by F.C. Boving of Hot Springs National Park and printed by Curt Teich's Chicago plant in the "C.T. American Art Colored" linen process, this unused card calls for a 1-cent stamp, dating production to the early linen era (c. 1930s).
