Postcard 1930s Montepulciano Italy Church Doors Multi-View Pre-Linen Fumi

Montepulciano, Italy1935Pre-linenGood

Four gothic and Renaissance doorways of Montepulciano survey the sacred thresholds of a Tuscan hill town that has barely changed since the Medici walked its streets — each portal photographed in crisp halftone green, arranged like a devotional triptych expanded by one. The upper left shows the pointed Gothic arch of the Chiesa di S. Francesco, its slender colonettes framing weathered wooden doors; upper right reveals the refined classical pediment of the Chiesa dello Spedale, Corinthian pilasters suggesting Renaissance wealth; lower left presents the broad Romanesque lunette of S. Agnese, and lower right the layered ogival arch of S. Maria — together a walking tour of ecclesiastical style compressed onto a single card. Published by the local Fumi press, this multi-view format was popular in the 1920s–1940s as a souvenir of towns too small for individual issue series, and it captures the architectural pride of a community that counted among its sons Pope Julius III.
