Chrome-bright and candy-colored, this 1970 postcard transports you behind the magnificent mottled marble soda fountain of Hamilton on the Square — a beloved Georgia roadside gem that doubled as an old-fashioned apothecary museum. A soda jerk in a crisp white uniform and straw boater pulls a fountain drink while, nearby, a smiling young man serves two children seated at a wrought-iron table beneath a glowing Tiffany-style lamp, all framed by walnut cabinetry and glass cases packed with Victorian-era drug-store antiques. Located on Highway 27 just three miles south of Callaway Gardens, the establishment offered homemade ice cream for the kids while "Mom and Pop" wandered through shelves of old home remedies and apothecary curiosities — a brilliant mid-century formula for roadside tourism. Published by Four Seasons Color Views (Macon, GA) and printed by Dexter Press (West Nyack, NY), the card was apparently sent or sorted in June 1970, as evidenced by the rubber-stamped date on the back.
