Sunlight on turquoise water and the distant haze of snow-capped peaks — this stunning chrome-era postcard captures Fishing Bridge spanning the outlet of Yellowstone Lake in Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park, the wooden trestle bridge crowded with anglers and sightseers while period automobiles — a cream convertible, a blue sedan, a dark coupe — cruise the roadway in a perfectly preserved 1950s tableau. Published by the renowned Curteich color process from a Haynes photograph, the card carries a July 1951 postmark from Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, and a warm message from Jim, Ev, and Mary to Mr. and Mrs. Lay in Attica, Indiana: "Having a wonderful time, catching all the trout we can eat… average 12 to 15 inches. Some good eating. We are both well. Going to Glacier National Park tomorrow." Fishing Bridge was eventually closed to fishing in 1973 to protect the lake's native cutthroat trout — this postcard predates that chapter.
