Postcard Casablanca Morocco La Cathedrale RPPC c1930 Photo-Casa

Casablanca, Morocco1932RPPCGood

Twin Art Deco towers rise dramatically above a grove of date palms in this striking real-photo postcard of Casablanca's Cathedral of the Sacred Heart — a building that embodies the ambitions of French colonial Morocco in stone and light. Designed by architect Paul Tournon and consecrated in 1930, the cathedral blended modernist massing with Moorish decorative flourishes, its soaring campaniles visible for blocks across the ville nouvelle. The photograph, distributed by the Casablanca-based Photo-Casa imprint through Librairie Rodet, captures the building shortly after completion, the palms still young and the surrounding plaza freshly laid. Today the former cathedral serves as a cultural center, making early images like this a window into a vanished civic identity that the city's French residents — many named Pierre, René, or Jacqueline — once called home.
