Postcard Scotland Thistle "This-tle Remind Ye" Novelty Clyde District c1930

Clyde District, Scotland1930Pre-linenGood

A bold pink Scottish thistle bursts across a sky-blue ground on this charming novelty greetings card from the Clyde District — the punning inscription "This-tle remind ye we're no Forgettin ye" captures the warm, self-deprecating wit of a Scottish seaside souvenir in a single flourish of purple cursive. The card is actually the cover of the "Dainty" Series mail novelty booklet (No. 49), a folded concertina of miniature real-photo views of the Clyde coast that unfolds to reveal landmarks including the Highland Mary statue at Dunoon and aerial views of the esplanade — a reminder of the interwar holiday trade that made the Firth of Clyde one of Britain's most beloved domestic resort regions. The "wally dug" spirit of Scots popular culture is alive in every detail: the spiky thistle, the sprig of white heather tucked alongside it, and the playful dialect spelling. Unused and retaining its original mini-photo accordion insert, this is a compact social-history document of Clyde Coast tourism between the wars.
