Postcard 1920s St Paul's Cathedral London RPPC Savoy Series Mailed to Mass

London, England, UK1923Pre-linenFair-Good

Christopher Wren's great dome floats above Ludgate Hill in this sharp real-photograph postcard of St. Paul's Cathedral, London — captured from a slightly elevated vantage that emphasizes the sweeping forecourt, the circular fountain ringed by period lamp posts, and the twin baroque clock towers that bracket the Portland stone facade. Tiny Edwardian and early Georgian pedestrians and horse-drawn vehicles animate the square below, grounding this architectural icon in everyday London life of the 1920s. On the reverse, a sender named by her sign-off as "Delia" has written in a confident cursive hand to a recipient named David in Wollaston, Massachusetts: she asks after his health, mentions lots of beautiful airports(?) she's seen, notes that she can take cigarettes on a boat, and closes warmly — a tantalizing slice of trans-Atlantic correspondence. The card is franked with a bright red King George V one-penny stamp and published under the distinguished "Savoy Series" trade mark by B. & G. of London.
