Antique & Vintage Postcards

The West Branch of the Delaware River winds lazily eastward through a broad Catskill valley, its pale blue waters catching the last warm light of a summer evening as the hills of Walton, New York, roll gently into an apricot sky — a hand-colored "Quality" series card that transforms a rural upstate New York scene into something approaching an Impressionist landscape. Walton, a small Delaware County town incorporated in 1851, sits at the confluence of the West Branch and Trout Creek, and the river view looking east was a perennial favorite for local souvenir cards in the early twentieth century. Published by J. Ruben of Newburgh, NY, and printed with the "Quality" watermark on the reverse, this white-border card was never mailed — the reverse is entirely blank except for the standard "Domestic One Cent / Foreign Two Cents" postage notice, placing it in the 1907–1915 white-border era. The lush foreground wildflowers and the warm palette give the card a quiet nostalgic pull that appeals to both Delaware County collectors and New York State topographical enthusiasts.
