Postcard 1948 Country Club Silver Lake Perry NY Linen Curteich Used

Silver Lake / Perry, New York, USA1948LinenGood

Sunlight pours across the manicured lawn of the Silver Lake Country Club in Perry, New York — a small Wyoming County village whose modest lake became a beloved summer anchor for Western New York families — the two-story clubhouse mirrored in the calm blue water, an American flag catching a June breeze from its shoreside pole. Curteich's linen process renders the scene in the saturated greens and blues characteristic of late-linen-era Americana, a format already giving way to chrome cards by decade's end. The reverse brings real drama: Florence writes to her friend Louise on June 21, 1948, reporting that she is "having a lovely time" but that it has been "quite cold most of the time," and — most startlingly — that "a man drowned in the lake Sat. P.M." before signing off with "Lots of excitement here over the weekend." It is the kind of candid, unfiltered dispatch that makes used postcards infinitely more compelling than their mint counterparts.
