Postcard 1908 Cornwall-on-Hudson NY Library Building Litho-Chrome 1c Stamp

Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, USA1908Pre-linenGood

Beneath a canopy of mature elms that nearly swallow the handsome four-story brick façade, the Library Building of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, presides over a lively Main Street corner in this warm Litho-Chrome card postmarked October 7, 1908 — and on the back, a sender named Lynn dashes off a teasing note to Miss Lou in Ellenville: "Bet you haven't occupied the front seat on any more moonlight rides this summer! (without exception)" — a playful jab that conjures warm upstate nights and a bit of youthful mischief a century past. The Cornwall-on-Hudson Library Building, a Victorian commercial-civic structure, anchored the town's commercial district; the ground-floor storefronts visible beneath the awnings still hint at the small-town retail bustle of the era. Published by the American News Company, New York, and printed by the prestigious Leipzig-Berlin firm Litho-Chrome (a German trade-mark process widely used for high-quality American view cards), this card bears a 1-cent Franklin stamp (Scott #300 series, green, 1902–1908 issue).
