Hundertwasser (1928–2000), the Vienna-born painter, printmaker, and ecological activist, created this visionary work during his most productive period, blending organic forms, urban grids rendered in jewel-toned reds and greens, and a spiraling onion-domed tower evoking both Eastern Orthodox architecture and his own utopian architectural philosophy.
