Postcard 1972 Hundertwasser Green Power 690 Art Card Gruener Janura 1981

Glarus, Switzerland (publisher)1972ChromeExcellent

Cascading white teardrops fall across undulating green hills while a mysterious face with glowing red eyes peers from swirling concentric bands of olive and brown — this is Friedensreich Hundertwasser's iconic 1972 painting Green Power (catalogue no. 690), reproduced as a large-format art postcard by Gruener Janura AG of Glarus, Switzerland in 1981, printed on heavy matte stock with a distinctive all-black reverse. Hundertwasser (1928–2000), the Vienna-born painter, printmaker, and ecological activist, created this visionary work during his most productive period, blending organic forms, urban grids rendered in jewel-toned reds and greens, and a spiraling onion-domed tower evoking both Eastern Orthodox architecture and his own utopian architectural philosophy. The companion detail card (images _02/_03) provides an extraordinary close-up of the face — the red-pupiled eyes, hinted smile, and cascading drops reading simultaneously as rain, tears, and seeds of renewal, emblematic of Hundertwasser's lifelong concern for ecological harmony. The Gruener Janura series of Hundertwasser art postcards, published 1981, are collected worldwide; this example is unused and bright.
