Postcard 1956 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Germany Novelty Pull-Out Zugspitze Views

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany1956ChromeExcellent

Sent from Garmisch on 3 September 1956 — just a decade after Allied forces had commandeered this Bavarian alpine resort as a recreation center — this charming novelty card shows two rosy-cheeked children in lederhosen and dirndl striding merrily down a sun-dappled path, knapsack bulging, hats aloft, a pennant flying from a walking stick, and a scroll reading "Wie herrlich ist's durch Stadt und Land, so urlaubsfroh zu gehen!" ("How wonderful to wander through town and country, so joyfully on holiday!"). Tucked beneath the children's feet, a hinged flap conceals a leporello accordion strip of crisp black-and-white photographic miniatures: a sweeping Gesamtansicht (panorama) of the twin-peaked massif, the Floriansplatz u. Zugspitze, the Frühlingsstraße, a busy Marktplatz, Am Eibsee, Partenkirchen m. Kramer, and the dramatic Zugspitze mit Münchner Haus perched on Germany's highest summit. The sender — writing to someone whose address is left blank — noted: "Best card from Garmisch — most of these scenes I have visited or seen. Had a great time Labor Day."
