Postcard 1905 Westminster Abbey Shrine Henry V Interior Valentine's Series

London, England1906Pre-linenGood

Deep within the shadowed ambulatory of Westminster Abbey, the ornate medieval shrine of King Henry V commands the frame — his effigy flanked by gilded saints, iron grilles, and pennants bearing royal arms, all rendered in the rich sepia tones of an Edwardian photographic postcard. Henry V, victor of Agincourt in 1415 and immortalised by Shakespeare, was interred here in the Chantry Chapel built above his tomb; the silver head of his effigy was stolen in the 15th century and never recovered, making even contemporary images of this monument historically poignant. Valentine & Sons of Dundee — one of Britain's foremost postcard publishers — produced this card in their well-regarded "Series" format, capturing the monument's architectural complexity with careful photographic skill. The card is unused, in clean condition, offering collectors a fine example of Edwardian interior abbey photography.
