Four monumental marble groups radiate from the base of the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, each personifying a continent in the grand Victorian allegorical tradition — a camel-borne Africa attended by robed figures; a fierce America astride a bison flanked by warriors; an elephant-backed Asia crowned with turbaned attendants; and a rearing-horse Europe enthroned with orb and sceptre — together forming a complete set of four photographic postcards by photographer P.G.O. Stuart that document John Henry Foley's and James Redfern's sculptural programme in intimate, cloud-sky detail. Published and printed in Germany for the British market (the backs note "For Island Postage only" and "Printed in Germany," characteristic of Edwardian-era quality photographic cards), these four cards carry sequential catalogue numbers 53453, 53446, 53447, and 53452, and remain entirely unused in matching excellent condition. Together they form a rare complete matched set — far more desirable to collectors than single examples.
