Zandvoort Netherlands Fisher Boy Beach Artist Signed Gerstenhauer c1905

Zandvoort, Netherlands1905Golden AgeUnused
Artist-signed color-tinted postcard from the North Sea beach resort of Zandvoort, Netherlands. The image depicts a cheerful young Dutch fisherman's boy — barefoot, wearing dark jacket, knickerbockers, and a peaked cap — carrying wooden oars or planks over his shoulder, with a dramatic breaking surf behind him. The monochrome blue-tinted lithograph is signed in the lower right: "J.G. Gerstenhauer," the Dutch genre and regional artist Johan Georg Gerstenhauer Zimmerman (1858–1931), who was known for his scenes of Dutch coastal and village life and who was one of the first Dutch artists commissioned for advertising postcards. Published by W. de Haan, Utrecht, printed by Morks & Geuze, Dordrecht. Unposted and unused.
