The Sakurada Gate area housed Japan's military nerve center during the Meiji and early Taisho eras; this was a popular view with foreign visitors and diplomats. The multilingual back (French, German, Italian, English, Russian / Cyrillic) with "Made in Japan" printed vertically is typical of Meiji-era export postcards produced for international sale, circa 1905–1912.
