Postcard 1910 Onsquethaw Falls Clarksville NY Waterfall Pre-Linen Divided Back

Clarksville, New York, USA1910Pre-linenGood

A silken sheet of water fans across layered limestone shelves in this hand-tinted view of Onsquethaw Falls, a beloved but little-photographed cascade tucked into the Helderberg escarpment country south of Albany — the sender, writing around Thanksgiving 1910, told the recipient (a woman named Adasa in Liverpool, New York) that she had "made mention of a few promises" and was still waiting to hear back, a charming domestic mystery preserved in careful copperplate script. The falls cascade between mossy sandstone walls crowded with bare-limbed hardwoods and a lone evergreen, the water rendered in soft blues and whites through the hand-coloring process typical of German-printed Americanview cards of the era. Publisher A. Van Wie of Clarksville produced this local gem for a very small market, making it a genuine small-town rarity for Albany County collectors.
