Postcard Rosary Hill College Marian Library Reading Room Snyder NY 1950s Linen

Snyder, New York, USA1958ChromeExcellent

Mid-century modernism meets academic serenity in this promotional postcard of the Reading Room of the Marian Library at Rosary Hill College in Snyder, New York — a women's liberal arts college founded in 1947 by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Penance and Christian Charity. The black-and-white photograph reveals an airy, light-flooded room with floor-to-ceiling glass curtain walls, ranks of well-filled bookshelves, a round study table ringed with wooden chairs, and clusters of low upholstered armchairs arranged for casual reading — the aspirational ideal of postwar Catholic higher education made tangible. The back describes the college as "a fully accredited four-year liberal arts College for women students," conferring B.A., B.S., and B.M. degrees across a beautifully landscaped 27½-acre campus. A dealer's pencil note "BU 3– / 4/90" suggests this entered a collector's stock around April 1990. Rosary Hill College later became Daemen University (renamed 2022), making this an early institutional document of that school's history.
