Antique & Vintage Postcards

A wild granite gorge splits the Wicklow hills in this richly hand-coloured Edwardian view of The Scalp, a dramatic glacial pass on the boundary of County Dublin and County Wicklow — a favourite Sunday excursion for Dubliners who would hire a wagonette and bowl south through the heather-clad boulders tumbling on either side of the narrow road. Published by Chas. L. Reis & Co. of Dublin and printed in Bavaria (a hallmark of the finest colour-postcard production of the 1900–1910 golden age), this unused card retains vivid greens, russets, and a luminous sky. The undivided-back format and "Printed in Bavaria" imprint firmly date it to the pre-1907 era. A small group of figures is just visible beside the road wall on the left, lending human scale to the towering rockface. The reverse carries the standard Reis inland-only message panel and a clean stamp box — never posted, never written on, a pristine time capsule of Edwardian Ireland's scenic postcard trade.
