Postcard 1965 RPPC Innsbruck Austria Nordkette Hungerburg Aerial View

Innsbruck, Austria1965RPPCGood

High above the rooftops of Innsbruck, a cable-car line slices diagonally across this dramatic aerial view, linking the city's elegant baroque skyline to the forested slopes of Hungerburg and the snow-dusted Nordkette peaks beyond — Seegrube and Hafelekar annotated in crisp white lettering like a geography lesson carved into the Alps. The prominent white church dominating the foreground is the Wilten Basilica, its twin towers rising above a colonnade and dense cemetery pines, anchoring the composition in the sacred heart of the Tyrolean capital. Postmarked September 25, 1965 — just one year after Innsbruck hosted the IX Winter Olympic Games — this real-photo card carries a personal message in German cursive from a sender named Jenny, written October 24 and addressed to a couple in Vienna's tenth district. The reverse proudly bears the Innsbruck Congress-Stadt slogan cancel and an Austrian 1-Schilling definitive stamp, and the printed caption identifies it as card A 1061 from Foto Verlag Wilhelm Siemptile. A wonderfully layered piece of mid-century Austrian tourism ephemera with strong Olympic-city cachet.
