Postcard 1950s Chrome Ford Dining Hall Martha Berry School Girls Rome Georgia

Mount Berry (Rome), Georgia, USA1958ChromeExcellent

Dressed in pastel pink and robin's-egg blue, rows of young women from the Martha Berry School for Girls arrange themselves along a mirror-still reflecting pool, their colorful dresses doubled in the water before the commanding Gothic Revival stonework of Ford Dining Hall — a gift bestowed by Henry and Clara Ford in 1924 that remains one of the most photographed buildings on the historic Berry College campus near Rome, Georgia. The scene radiates the composed, aspirational spirit of mid-century women's education in the American South, and photographer Jack Taylor's Kodachrome lens renders the warm red granite and lush manicured grounds in colors that feel almost too vivid to be real. This unused Dexter Press chrome card was published by Cherokee Supply Co. of Rome and survives in excellent condition, making it a fine example of Southern campus ephemera from the era.
