Postcard President Roosevelt Ford Convertible Little White House Warm Springs GA

Warm Springs, Georgia, USA1960ChromeExcellent

Parked in perpetual readiness at the columned entrance of FDR's beloved Georgia retreat, the gleaming dark-blue 1938 Ford V-8 Convertible that carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt through the red-clay countryside of Warm Springs is the star of this vivid Curteich linen-style chrome postcard. Roosevelt — who contracted polio in 1921 — had the car specially hand-controlled so he could drive independently, and it became one of the most poignant symbols of his determined spirit. He died at the Little White House on April 12, 1945, while sitting for a portrait; the Ford had been parked outside that very day. The postcard's reverse notes the car "normally stood in readiness at the entrance of the Little White House" and was printed in Ireland by Curteich's 3-D Natural Color Reproduction process (code 2DK-826), placing production in the postwar Chrome era. Today both the house and the Ford are preserved as part of the FDR Little White House State Historic Site, and cards like this remain popular with Roosevelt, Georgia history, and presidential automobile collectors alike.
