Postcard Booklet Turku Åbo Finland Series II 10 Views RPPC c1940 Reinikainen

Turku, Finland1945RPPCFair-Good

A compact accordion-fold souvenir booklet opens to reveal ten crisp black-and-white photographic miniatures of Turku (Swedish: Åbo), Finland's oldest city and former capital — from the streamlined modernist Bus Station (Linja-autoasema) and the grand Railway Station (Rautatieasema), to the sweeping Aurakatu boulevard flanked by the University and Art Museum, the bustling Market Square (Kauppatori), the medieval St. Martin's Church (Martinkirkko), and a windmill framed by birch trees. Trams crowd the Kauppiaskatu street scene, while a distant panorama from Kuppis park stretches over red-roofed suburbs. Photographed by E. Reinikainen and published in two languages (Finnish/Swedish, reflecting Turku's officially bilingual status), this "Sarja/Serie II" booklet captures the city during a period of quiet reconstruction confidence after the hardships of the Winter and Continuation Wars. The Bus Station image is particularly striking — its Functionalist curved facade was a showpiece of 1930s Finnish modernism.
