Postcard Providence RI Greetings Multi-View 1900s Pre-Linen Blue Tint

Providence, Rhode Island, USA1904Pre-linenFair-Good

Deep Prussian-blue tones give this Edwardian multi-view its quiet, almost nocturnal elegance — nine vignettes of turn-of-the-century Providence, Rhode Island arranged in a grid of rectangles and ovals that was the height of postcard fashion in 1901–1907. The Rhode Island State Capitol's fresh white granite dome anchors the composition, the building barely a year old when cards like this began circulating; surrounding it are the Harbor, Market Square bustling with horse-era commerce, the Boathouse at Roger Williams Park, and the imposing Columbia College Library (today's Providence Public Library annex). A handwritten greeting in flowing copperplate reads "From Corinne" — a personal touch from an Edwardian sender who likely purchased the card at one of the city's new souvenir counters. The reverse unfolds accordion-style to reveal six additional photographic panels including the State Normal School, City Hall, Brown University gate, NY NH & H Railroad Station, and the State Capitol from a second angle, all printed in the same cool blue-black palette by the Mutual Book Co. of Boston for Blanchard, Young & Co.
