Antique & Vintage Postcards

Perched romantically above a sea of dark treetops, the neo-Gothic turrets of the Sälischlössli near Olten, Switzerland pierce a pale sky — a miniature fairy-tale stronghold that locals knew as "Schloss Wartburg-Säli." This real-photo postcard captures the castle's battlemented parapets, slender corner spires, and sturdy round tower flying the Swiss cross, all glimpsed through dense woodland in a composition that feels more oil painting than photograph. The Sälischlössli was built in the 19th century as a romantic folly on the wooded hillside above Olten (canton Solothurn) and became a popular excursion destination and restaurant. A rubber stamp on the reverse tells us the card was held by the establishment itself — "Schloss Wartburg-Säli / E. Lanz-Lang / Küchenchef / Olten" — meaning this very copy likely sat on the counter of the castle's kitchen manager, ready to be sold to delighted day-trippers. Publisher Photohaus Stüssi of Olten produced this crisp gelatin silver real-photo card, numbered 212.
