Antique & Vintage Postcards

Greetings from Regensburg — a sweeping panoramic lithograph of one of Bavaria's most ancient cities, its soaring Gothic cathedral spires piercing a luminous sky above a dense medieval roofscape, mailed on August 13, 1905 from Regensburg to Marktredwitz. This "Gruss aus" (Greetings from) format was the postcard craze of the 1890s–1900s, and this fine chromolithograph exemplifies the genre at its artistic peak, with lovingly rendered rooftiles, riverside meadows, and the unmistakable twin towers of the Regensburger Dom dominating the skyline. The sender, who signed as Adolf, filled both the picture side and the back with flowing German script, writing with evident warmth to a woman named Fräulein Peter, described as a "Geschäftsgehilfin" (shop assistant) in Marktredwitz. The card was published by Warenhaus Christoph Frank and printed by Kunst-Anstalt Rosenblatt of Frankfurt — a quality production house of the era.
