Postcard Kill Kare Kamp Middleburg NY 1925 Used Linen Lake View 2c Stamp

Middleburg, New York, USA1925Pre-linenGood

Across a glassy Schoharie County lake, the white clapboard buildings of Kill Kare Kamp shimmer in a warm September haze — a quintessential 1920s view of the summer-camp culture that flourished in the rolling farmland south of the Catskills. Postmarked September 10, 1925 at Middleburg, N.Y., this linen-era card carries a chatty two-line note from a couple named Nettie and Frank, who write simply: "This is where we are spending our vacation — Both well." The red Washington two-cent stamp — the flat-plate rotary-press issue of the era — is cleanly cancelled with the Middleburg double-ring postmark. Kill Kare Kamp (spelled with alliterative K's in the playful 1920s fashion) sat on a lake near Middleburg; the camp and its lake setting are now largely forgotten, making this card a rare documentary record.
