Postcard 1968 San Jose Church Ponce de Leon Statue Old San Juan Puerto Rico Chrome

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico1968ChromeExcellent

Bathed in Caribbean afternoon light, the austere white facade of San José Church in Old San Juan commands a quiet plaza, its dark wooden doors flanked by iron-barred windows while the bronze figure of Ponce de León — conquistador, explorer, seeker of the Fountain of Youth — gestures boldly from his pedestal at center. Built in the early 16th century, San José is one of the oldest churches in the Western Hemisphere and was home to Ponce de León's remains for nearly three centuries. This pristine, never-mailed chrome card from 1968 captures the plaza in midday stillness, the warm pink-terracotta pavement stretching toward a tree that leans into frame from the right — a postcard that was purchased but never sent, leaving its message space blank and its corners sharp.
