Antique & Vintage Postcards

Massive and unyielding, the Piast Castle of Liegnitz (today Legnica, Poland) looms over its tree-lined boulevard in this wartime real-photo card — its great round tower and stepped Renaissance gables the same stones that once sheltered Silesian dukes, now photographed amid a Europe at war. Postmarked Liegnitz 3, dated 27.6.42, this is a genuine Feldpost (German military mail) card: sent by a soldier or local civilian through the military postal system during the Second World War, it bears the eagle-and-shield censor stamp of the Briefezensurstelle alongside the Liegnitz postmark and the public safety slogan "Eigene Vorsicht — Bester Unfallschutz" (Your Own Caution — Best Accident Protection). It was addressed to "Steffi Billensteiner" at Wilhelmsring, Neusiedl, and the handwritten message on the left — in period German script — speaks of walks, good weather, and hope to meet again soon.
