Postcard Budapest Andrassy Street Hungary 1926 Written Oilette Style Chrome

Budapest, Hungary1926Pre-linenFair-Good

A stately boulevard stretches into the vanishing point of golden-age Budapest — the grand Andrássy Avenue in its full Belle Époque splendor, lined with ornate stone facades and dotted with horse-drawn carriages and early electric tram kiosks, as seen in this painterly Oilette-style chromolithograph published by Hausner. On the left, a magnificent domed corner building anchors the composition; at street level, period shop signage including "Weiner Mátyás" is legible on the right-hand block. The card was written and dated in Budapest, September 1926 — the message in German reads, in translation: "We drive past here often, united in love like a lock and its bolt." A tender, intimate note that transforms this architectural postcard into a small love letter from interwar Hungary, the city still glittering before the political darkness of the coming decades would descend.
