Antique & Vintage Postcards

From an elevated vantage point above the Place de la Monnaie, this crisp phototype captures Brussels' magnificent Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie — the opera house where a performance of Auber's La Muette de Portici in August 1830 famously ignited the Belgian Revolution — its grand Ionic colonnade and richly sculptured pediment dominating the foreground while Saint-Michael and Saint-Gudula Cathedral's twin Gothic towers rise in the distance and a sign for "Bière Alsacienne" anchors the commercial streetscape to the left. The phototype process by A. Dohmen of Brussels renders architectural detail with exceptional tonal fidelity, making this an especially fine example of Belgian interwar topographical printing. The card is unused, with a clean blank reverse bearing only the publisher imprint — a collector's copy in very presentable condition.
