Postcard RPPC 1910s Coronation Chair Stone of Destiny Westminster Abbey Tucks

London, England1908Pre-linenExcellent

Standing sentinel near St. Edward's Shrine, the ancient oak Coronation Chair encasing the legendary Stone of Destiny dominates this striking real-photograph Tuck's postcard — a relic of Scottish history forcibly brought to Westminster by Edward I in 1297 and used to crown every English monarch for over six centuries. The photograph captures the chair's carved lion feet, its age-darkened Gothic canopy, and the reddish sandstone slab visible beneath the seat, in crisp sepia tones that lend it an almost archaeological gravity. Raphael Tuck & Sons — "Art Publishers to Their Majesties the King & Queen" — issued this as part of their prestigious Westminster Abbey series (Postcard No. 3718), and the reverse carries a detailed historical note tracing the Stone's legendary journey from Bethel through Tara, Iona, and Scone to London. An ideal piece for collectors of British royalty ephemera, ecclesiastical history, or the storied Tuck's publisher line.
