Postcard 1902 Llandudno From Great Orme Wales Peacock Brand Autochrom

Llandudno, Wales, United Kingdom1903Pre-linenExcellent

Sweeping down from the rocky limestone flanks of the Great Orme, this luminous hand-coloured Autochrom view of Llandudno captures the Welsh seaside resort at the height of the Edwardian golden age — the famous crescent bay glittering in pale aquamarine, the promenade hotels ranged in terracotta rows, and a tiny Great Orme Tramway car just visible on the hillside path, one of the oldest cable tramways still running in Britain. Llandudno was planned in the 1840s by the Mostyn family as a model Victorian resort, and by the time this card was printed the town had become the largest seaside destination in Wales, drawing visitors from the industrial cities of the north-west by express LNWR trains. The Peacock Brand "Autochrom" series, printed at the Works in Saxony, represents the premium coloured-photographic postcard of its era — the warm tones and topographic clarity making it a perennial collector favourite for Welsh topographicals.
