RPPC Postcard 1937 Model Village Bourton-on-the-Water Cotswolds Visitors

Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom1937RPPCGood

Visitors tower like gentle giants over the honey-stone rooftops in this bird's-eye real-photo view of the famous Model Village at Bourton-on-the-Water — a 1:9 scale recreation of the entire Cotswold village, built by craftsmen between 1936 and 1940 using the same local oolitic limestone as the originals, complete with a tiny model of the model village inside it. The third image (detail crop) pulls in tight on five men in period suits and flat caps gathered beside the miniature River Windrush, offering an extraordinary document of leisure tourism in late-1930s England just before the war would close such pleasures. The hand-captioned inscription "The Model Village, Bourton-on-the-Water, 12." and the "Bett" studio credit in the corner confirm this as an early production card, likely from the 1937 opening season. The back is a standard "With Greetings / This is a Real Photograph" style, unused.
