Postcard 1920s York Royal Station Hotel LNER England UK Sepia Vintage

York, England1928Pre-linenExcellent

Framed by manicured Edwardian gardens and a classical statue, the grand Victorian bulk of York's Royal Station Hotel rises above the city's famous walls in this crisp sepia-tone card — a monument to the golden age of railway travel when the London and North Eastern Railway made arriving in York feel like entering a palace. The hotel, opened in 1878 and designed by William Peachey, adjoined York Station directly, and LNER guests stepping off the Flying Scotsman could walk straight into its Reading and Writing Rooms without touching the northern rain. The back of this unused card promotes the hotel's "Modern Garage" and "Tea Room on the Platform," details that paint a vivid picture of 1920s–30s leisure travel. A penciled dealer notation "V-300" appears top right.
