Antique & Vintage Postcards

Edwardian-era postcard reproducing a facsimile of the 1706 Stage-Coach coaching notice from York — one of the earliest known printed public transport advertisements in England. The notice announces a stage coach service beginning Friday, April 12, 1706 between London and York, departing from the Black Swan in Holborn (London) and the Black Swan in Coney Street (York), making the journey in four days "if God permits," setting forth at five in the morning. The service was performed by Benjamin Kingman, Henry Harrison, and Walter Baynes. A Newcastle Stage Coach connection is also noted. A handwritten period annotation at the bottom reads: "Rec'd in pl. 05:00 of Mr. Bodmgford for 5 pl. for Monday the 3 of June 1706."
