Postcard High Rock Tower Lynn MA John Hutchinson Bard 1907 Era Undivided

Lynn, Massachusetts, USA1905Pre-linenGood

Perched atop a granite hilltop in Lynn, Massachusetts, the medieval-castle silhouette of High Rock Tower commands the skyline while a crowd of Edwardian-era visitors in long coats mills about its base — a Sunday-afternoon ritual that defined this beloved North Shore landmark for generations. Inset at upper left is a portrait of John W. Hutchinson, the white-bearded folk singer and abolitionist known as the "Bard of High Rock," who built the tower on his family's estate and turned it into a gathering place for reformers, spiritualists, and music lovers throughout the late 19th century. The hand-tinted color process and the "one cent domestic / two cents foreign" undivided-back stamp box date this card firmly to the 1901–1907 Pioneer/Undivided Back era, making it among the earliest postcard formats produced in America.
