Street-car tracks scar the unpaved intersection in front of Lawrence High School, a confident Romanesque Revival pile of buff brick and granite trim rising three stories above Lawrence, Massachusetts — a mill city then at the peak of its industrial swagger, just five years before the famous Bread and Roses strike would rewrite its history. The tram wires overhead and the absence of automobiles place this firmly in the first decade of the twentieth century, when Reichner Brothers of Boston and Munich were printing American view cards in Germany for the domestic market. The back carries printed postage guidance — one cent domestic, two cents foreign — and a pencilled dealer price of "1/0 / 22," suggesting it passed through a dealer's stock before finding a collection.
