Postcard East Point Nahant Massachusetts Linen 1948 Used Lynn MA Cancel

Nahant, Massachusetts, USA1948LinenGood

Saturated in the jewel-toned optimism of linen-era printing, this view of East Point in Nahant, Massachusetts glows with an almost painterly unreality — a sweeping arc of sandy cove, craggy granite outcroppings, and manicured lawn lead the eye to a cluster of grand Victorian-era shingle-style and Queen Anne resort cottages perched above the rocky Atlantic shore, their turrets and broad verandas pink and gold in the summer light. Nahant, a rocky peninsula north of Boston and south of Lynn, was a 19th-century resort haven for Boston Brahmin families, and the estates at East Point were among its most coveted addresses. The card was mailed in August 1948 from Lynn, Massachusetts, with a 1-cent green George Washington stamp, the sender filling every inch of the correspondence side with details of a Sunday visit to Nahant with a couple, fresh lobster, a little girl, and news of the town.
