Antique & Vintage Postcards

Postmarked from the tiny rural depot of Sterling, Massachusetts on a July afternoon in 1910, this warm hand-colored card depicts the Haws Memorial Chapel in Leominster — a spare, handsome Romanesque Revival stone chapel nestled among pines, its rough-cut granite blocks and lancet arch window exuding the quiet permanence of a memorial gift. The writer, who signs only as "Wini," tells her friend she is "visiting at my old home near this place" and thought to "remember you with a card," wishing the recipients — addressed as Mrs. Byron — well in Springfield. The one-cent Franklin stamp was cancelled at Sterling, a small central Massachusetts town, adding rural postal routing interest to this already charming social document from the golden age of postcard correspondence.
