Antique & Vintage Postcards

Mailed from Washington, D.C. on January 23, 1907, this remarkable "Souvenir Mail Card" is a fold-out leporello — a pleated accordion booklet that opens to reveal six miniature photographic panels of the capital's most celebrated landmarks, each annotated in a traveler's looping hand with dates of visit ("Jan 21," "Jan 22"). The outer cover shows the Washington Monument reflected in the Tidal Basin against a hand-tinted blue sky; opening it discloses the Capitol, the White House, the U.S. Treasury, the Congressional Library's Grand Staircase, and one of the Government Department buildings. A rusty brass brad fastener holds the folded packet shut. The card was addressed to Miss Lillian Bartlett, care of J.A. Ryder, Salem Depot, N.H., and bears a green 1-cent Franklin stamp — the 1906 issue — postmarked Washington, D.C., January 23, 1907, at 11 AM.
