Postcard "Come & Share With Me" Woman Watermelon Rochester Photo c1912

Phillips, Maine, USA (destination)1912Pre-linenFair-Good

A smiling young woman in a checked gingham apron leans forward across a tabletop, holding out the two halves of a freshly cut watermelon with an infectious, gap-toothed grin — her curly hair pinned loosely up in the fashion of the early 1910s. Published by Rochester Photo Co. of Rochester, N.Y., this photographic novelty card carries the cheerful invitation "Come & Share With Me" in bold lettering above her portrait, a style enormously popular during the "Golden Age" of American postcards. The reverse, addressed to "Dear Aunt Ada" in Phillips, Maine, carries a warm family note from Ada asking whether Evangeline could come to visit "the last of the week" — a small window into the domestic rhythms of rural New England circa 1912. The card bears a green 1-cent Washington stamp and a partially legible postmark.
