Postcard Wells Somerset England Cathedral Multi-View Chrome 1974 Bath Postmark

Wells, Somerset, England, UK1974ChromeGood

Four saturated chrome views of Wells — England's smallest city and home to one of its most breathtaking medieval cathedrals — fill this J. Salmon "Cameracolour" card postmarked Bath, 23 June 1974, during the famous Bath Festival (21–30 June): the soaring Gothic west front bathed in afternoon sun, a bustling market-place scene with the cathedral towers rising behind the awnings, the intimate medieval perfection of Vicars' Close, and the cathedral mirrored in the waters of the Bishop's Palace moat. On the back, a traveler — writing to Bertha in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — describes a lovely day trip from Bath through Glastonbury and the Somerset countryside, calling the scenery "perfect." The Bath Festival slogan cancellation stamp lends this ordinary holiday card an unexpected cultural timestamp.
