Postcard 1900s The Holy City 3 Bamforth RPPC Song Card Religious Tableau

Holmfirth, England (subject: Jerusalem / religious allegory)1904RPPCGood

A dreaming woman reclines in a shadowed Victorian parlor while above her the heavens burst open—angels ascending on clouds, the luminous figure of Christ in glory, the domed skyline of the Holy City gleaming beyond the gates—in this theatrical composite image that blurs the boundary between lantern-slide drama and sacred vision. Published by Bamforth & Co. of Holmfirth, England (with a New York office), this "Real Photo" song card is the third panel in their illustrated series for the beloved 1892 hymn "The Holy City" by Frederick Weatherly and Stephen Adams, words reproduced here by kind permission of Messrs. Boosey & Co. Bamforth's song-card series is among the most sought-after Edwardian postcard genres, combining photography, theatrical staging, and popular music in a format that functioned as both devotional object and parlor entertainment.
