Postcard 1915 Pan-Pacific Int'l Expo San Francisco Birdseye View Linen

San Francisco, USA1915Pre-linenGood

From the marshaled grandeur of landfill on San Francisco Bay, this sweeping birds-eye illustration captures the entire footprint of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition — a world's fair built to announce that San Francisco had risen magnificently from the ashes of the 1906 earthquake. Dozens of steam-belching warships crowd the harbor, domed pavilions and colonnaded exhibition halls fill the foreground, and Marin's hills rise beyond the glittering bay, with what appears to be an early aircraft faintly sketched against the sky. The card was an official souvenir, produced under concessionaire license by the Carpinell-Vincent Co. of San Francisco, and bears the handsome embossed PPIE medallion seal on its reverse — an untraveled gem that was never addressed or stamped.
