Postcard Trier Germany Panoramic City View Cathedral Spires Pre-Linen c1910

Trier, Germany1910Pre-linenGood

From a hilltop vantage above the Moselle River, this sweeping black-and-white panorama of Trier captures Germany's oldest city at the dawn of the twentieth century — the twin Romanesque spires of the Liebfrauenkirche and the massive barrel tower of Trier Cathedral pierce the skyline above a dense grid of bourgeois townhouses, while a stone bridge and sandy riverbank anchor the foreground. Trier, founded by the Romans as Augusta Treverorum, wore its ancient bones proudly in this era, and the card's clean script titling reflects the confident print culture of Wilhelmine Germany. Publisher V.H.H. assigned catalog number 8513 to this view, placing it squarely in the golden age of European view-card production when millions of such panoramas moved through the imperial post each year.
